Marketing in times of CoVid-19

Marketing in times of CoVid-19 - Keeping it real and adjusting

With so many countries going into lockdown, businesses working from home, and in some cases closing temporarily, it’s very important that as brands we don’t lose sight of how to connect with our customers.

Here are a few things that you can still post about and some things to remember when posting.

KEEP THEM INFORMED

To begin with, if you are a retailer and have had to close down, then keep your followers and customers informed. If you’re still offering a delivery service, then let them know. If you are a service, then offer them comfort that you are taking every precaution and that they can continue to rely on you. Any extra steps that you might be taking. For example, how you're sanitising your premises or products and if you are offering contact free delivery. Of course, you should actually be doing it and not just saying it…!

POSITIVITY

Taking it a step further from the above, at a time like this, communicating measures that you as a brand are taking to ensure safety and wellness would be ideal. Everyone would love to know if you're doing anything to help the community locally or how you are taking care of your staff and ensuring that they are safe. Apart from being something you can post about, it can help build your brand image and help you connect with your followers. It also helps to spread some positivity which many will need now.

SENSITIVITE CONTENT

As a brand/company, you will have to ensure that any content you had scheduled is aligned with the situation. Look at the copy you use, are you asking your customers to come in store? Or are your images depicting gatherings? Probably not the best time to post content that might not be appropriate in the given situation.

INSTAGRAM LIVE

If you are a restaurant that’s had to close temporarily or a bar, why not look at doing some Instagram live sessions from your home with your followers where they can watch and learn how to make a dish or a drink?

If you run a gym or are a personal trainer, look at having workout sessions on live where your followers can work out with you from home.

QUOTES & THROWBACKS

It’s the perfect time to be posting motivational quotes and some throwback pictures! Always collect content and keep clicking pictures so that you’ll always have something to share. Just remember, they should also be relevant to your brand if you are posting it on your feed.

INSTAGRAM STORIES

Don’t forget, you can ask your followers through Instagram stories what type of content they want to see from you during this time. Here’s a link to our previous post on how to make the most of Instagram stories.

CREATE A CHALLENGE

If you have a following that is likely to enjoy taking challenges, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t start one. People love to do them, and they can still be relevant to your brand.

A make-up brand can ask their followers to get creative with how they use 2 shades of lipsticks for example, or a personal trainer can create a workout challenge. Challenges go viral pretty quickly if they’re good so definitely one to try.

GENERATE LEADS

If you feel you don't want to focus too much on selling and being sales-y at a time like this, then focus on generating leads for your business or updating your database.

There are still so many things you can do that shouldn’t affect your digital marketing efforts during these times. Reach out to me if you need any help and I’ll do my best to help brainstorm some ideas with you. In the meantime, stay home, stay safe.
