Why you need to be marketing online - Digital marketing

I’m going back to basics with my post today to explain why should you be investing in digital marketing.

Let’s start off with what exactly is digital marketing? Essentially all digital marketing is, is marketing your brand/products/services through digital channels. Digital channels are online means of marketing that include, but are not limited to, websites, social media, email marketing, affiliate marketing, PPC, and content marketing.

Now that we’ve understood what digital marketing is all about, here are the reasons I think it’s really important to have an online presence and not just focus on the old school methods of brochures, billboard ads, and TV/newspaper adverts.

1. Everyone is online and that includes your target customers

Here’s the deal, everyone is online in some way or the other. Even if someone says they don’t have a social media account, or they don’t browse websites they’re still online. Whether it’s being online by having an email address or if they’re playing a game on their phones.

Especially since Covid-19 has hit the world, people are spending more time online as they have more time to spend. To be honest, this is the best time to make the most of what online channels have to offer.

2. Easy to track

The benefits of marketing online is that the analytics you receive are amazing. If you were to run an advert online either on a social media platform or using Google Ads, you would be able to see exactly how many people have viewed your advert and as a result clicked on it.

You wouldn’t have access to these numbers if you ran a billboard ad or an advert in a newspaper for example.

3. You can target your ideal audience

With the amount of data that is out there, it’s easy to track your ideal customer by targeting your marketing efforts. This can be done by running an add that targets users in a specific region or targeting those who have certain interests such as fashion or skincare.

4. You can easily tweak and amend

The other advantage of digital marketing is that if you run an advert but find that it’s not getting you the clicks you want, you can always pause it, change the creative, and then continue unlike an offline advert. You can technically keep doing this until you get the return you want.

5. It lends itself to testing

A few weeks ago I had written a blog post about testing and why it's important. Here it is incase you missed it, but that’s the other advantage of digital marketing, you’re able to test various elements easily and get results within a few weeks if not sooner.

6. It’s quick to start and not very expensive

Another advantage of digital marketing is how quick you can start. Not only can you start anytime you want but it is also quite affordable and flexible. Setting up email marketing and sending out emails through platforms such as Mailchimp that have a free plan make it quite attractive. Running an advert on social media or Google is also quite quick to do and they allow you to suit a budget that you are comfortable with. So you don’t have to pay a fixed amount, it’s all up to you.

These are just a few of the benefits of running digital marketing campaigns but there are many more that are specific to individual channels.
