When I first started writing blog posts, I didn’t really know what to write, how to write and what made a post good.
I started writing a personal blog about my move from London to Lagos and then, when I founded Laasiki, I had to start writing posts that would be of interest to people who would like to learn more about the digital marketing world.
I then did what every blogger has done and googled how to write a good blog post and as you’d expect, there were many articles about planning, keeping it simple, lists, introduction, conclusions, etc. The one thing that stood out for me however is, what’s the objective? What’s the question?
A good blog post always starts with a question. What are you trying to answer? Apart from that however, you also have to think about why is that information important? It’s all well and good to let your followers know how search engines work, for example, but have you highlighted why this is important for them to consider? In other words, thanks for the information but so what?

Step 3 – Why is it important to know?
Looking at the steps highlighted above, the beauty about a blog post is that it can be something you actually want to learn about. That means, you have to do some research and gain that knowledge to be able to share it with your followers. The more I think about this (as I am typing), the more sense it makes. After all, if you are looking for the answer, you in effect, become your own audience/reader.
So, coming back to the original question that this post is answering, what separates a good blog post from a bad blog post? It’s answering the question and highlighting the importance of why it’s useful to know. This is useful to know to ensure your blog post gets a lot of reads and hopefully lots of new subscribers as well!
