Why you should be Live Streaming on Social Media

Social Media Week was held in Lagos last week and it was quite a week. Chris Cox, the Chief Product Officer from Facebook, was the keynote speaker and he was fantastic. He shared his story of how he started out at Facebook and some new products that Facebook is working on.

While there were a lot of topics that were discussed and several aspects were covered, the one recurring theme that was evident was the use of videos and live videos specifically in Social Media.

Live streaming may not be the BRAND new big thing but, it’s definitely more in the spotlight now as more brands and individuals are using it. If you’re not using it, now is the time to start! It’s a good way to promote engagement with your brand and increase brand loyalty.

Still not convinced? Here are some more reasons why.

  • It is more engaging as users can respond immediately

  • Generally, has a longer watch time than standard videos

  • It’s immediate & immersive. Your audience feels present and closer to you or the situation. They get taken into the situation and that moment and feel connected to you or your brand.

  • It offers a unique perspective and allows others to understand another point of view and broaden horizons.

  • A social connection is established as users are also interacting with each other. The brand can bring people close together.

  • Authenticity: it’s real. For example, a fan can see their favourite celebrity without makeup, in everyday clothes and relate.

  • A sense of excitement and surprise can be created where you don’t know what’s going to happen.

  • Last but not least, it’s EASY! You don’t need any fancy equipment, just a smartphone!

Why you should be live streaming on social media

If you want to build that connection with your audience, you should definitely look at doing some live streaming.

You’ll soon be able to take it one step further!

Facebook has recently launched the ‘Live with’ feature that allows people to start a live session and then invite someone else to that session to chat. For example, if you’re a celebrity or a chat show host, you can invite a fan or a guest to join your live session. This is more fun and interactive.

Apart from that, it makes life easier for you as you don’t have to worry about being in the same place as the other person! #gettingridofbarriers!
